Strengthened Quality Standards

Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect in aged care. The Aged Care Quality Standards are a set of requirements that define what good care looks like. They describe the standard of care you can expect from your aged care provider, whether you live in a residential care home or in your own home.

The Quality Standards have been strengthened and the new Standards will be introduced with the commencement of the new Aged Care Act from 1 July 2025.

The existing Standards will remain in effect until then.

The Commission has developed a suite of resources for aged care providers on the Strengthened Quality Standards. We are currently developing resources specifically for older people to help you understand what the changes mean for you. These will be available on our website in the coming months.
