Change of ownership 03 July 2023

The previous approved provider of the service was non-compliant with Standard 1, Standard 2, Standard 3, Standard 4, Standard 5,  Standard 7 and Standard 8 of the Quality Standards. This finding of non-compliance does not transfer to the new approved provider. The Commission will continue to closely monitor these areas at the service.

Exceptional Circumstances

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has temporarily modified our Regulatory Program, including the suspension of site audits to determine whether to accredit, not to re-accredit or vary the periods of accreditation for a service. 

In order to give effect to continuity of accreditation the Department of Health has, under Section 42.5 of the Aged Care Act 1997, made a decision to grant ‘exceptional circumstances’ to this service 30 March 2023.

The service remains subject to compliance monitoring by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.

The period of accreditation of the service will expire on 30 March 2021.

Following a review audit the Commission made a decision on 30 August 2019 that this service met two of the eight Aged Care Quality Standards. The Commission decided to vary the service's period of accreditation. The service is now accredited until 30 March 2020.

Serious risk decision

Following a review audit conducted on 9 – 25 July 2019, a delegate of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner made a finding that Marco Polo Aged Care Services failed to meet six Aged Care Quality Standards (Quality Standards) in relation to Marco Polo Aged Care Facility..

On 26 September 2019 a decision was made that failure to meet one Quality Standard has placed the safety, health or well-being of five aged care consumer’s of the service at serious risk. The Department of Health has been notified of the risk.

Serious risk is not an ongoing state; it is a statutory decision based on evidence at a point in time.

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission will continue to monitor the performance of the service including through unannounced visits.

Following a site audit conducted on 7 August 2018 to 9 August 2018, a delegate of the CEO of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency made a decision on 12 October 2018 to re-accredit this service. The period of accreditation of the service will expire on 31 October 2019.

The approved provider of the service meets 44 of the 44 expected outcomes of the Accreditation Standards.

Serious risk decision

On 20 March 2018 a delegate of the CEO of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency made a decision that Marco Polo Aged Care Services Limited failed to meet four expected outcomes in the Accreditation Standards in relation to Marco Polo Aged Care Facility and that this failure has placed, or may place, the safety, health or wellbeing of care recipients of the service at serious risk.

An assessment contact was conducted by the Quality Agency on 26 June 2018 to 27 June 2018 at Marco Polo Aged Care Facility to monitor the service’s progress. The Quality Agency found the service complies with all Accreditation Standards.

Serious risk is not an ongoing state; it is a statutory decision based on evidence at a point in time.
